Domain expiry monitoring

When to use Domain#

Use Domain monitoring for registration-expiry awareness on customer domains and other business-critical names. It complements TLS and Uptime; each answers a different operational question.

Create the monitor#

1. Open Monitors and click New Monitor.
2. Select Domain.
3. Enter a friendly label.
4. Enter the domain or URL, for example example.com.
5. Create the monitor.

Domain monitoring runs on a fixed 24-hour cadence.

Expected result#

A healthy result includes usable expiry evidence. Warning/Expiring means the remaining lifetime crossed the configured product threshold. Unknown or source-limited means the registry/RDAP source did not provide a definitive answer; it does not prove the domain expired.

Common mistakes#

• Confusing certificate expiry with domain-registration expiry.
• Treating Unknown as a confirmed outage.
• Expecting identical data availability for every TLD or registry.
• Entering a path when only the hostname is relevant.
• Waiting for an alert instead of keeping registrar ownership and renewal contacts current.
