Domain expiry monitoring
Track domain-registration expiry risk and understand registry or RDAP source limitations.
When to use Domain#
Use Domain monitoring for registration-expiry awareness on customer domains and other business-critical names. It complements TLS and Uptime; each answers a different operational question.
Create the monitor#
- Open Monitors and click New Monitor.
- Select Domain.
- Enter a friendly label.
- Enter the domain or URL, for example
example.com. - Create the monitor.
Domain monitoring runs on a fixed 24-hour cadence.
Expected result#
A healthy result includes usable expiry evidence. Warning/Expiring means the remaining lifetime crossed the configured product threshold. Unknown or source-limited means the registry/RDAP source did not provide a definitive answer; it does not prove the domain expired.
Common mistakes#
- Confusing certificate expiry with domain-registration expiry.
- Treating Unknown as a confirmed outage.
- Expecting identical data availability for every TLD or registry.
- Entering a path when only the hostname is relevant.
- Waiting for an alert instead of keeping registrar ownership and renewal contacts current.
